在蘇聯解體漸趨開放後，愈來愈多尋根的人想返鄉探望、或者將父母的骨灰帶回老家安葬。投機的男人利用這大好機會，向客戶收取高額佣金，組成烏克蘭小鎮探親團。真正的目的地其實已不復存在，但全鎮從市長到百姓，為了賺錢，全都投入詐騙行列；不僅假裝失散多年的親人，甚至更改小鎮鎮名。只是有人演得太「入戲」，加上誤會、圓謊，過程笑料百出，本片對共產世界的轉變充滿幽默嘲諷。
