C.R.A.Z.Y. Will Mark the Opening of the 8th Taipei Film Festival

Tomorrow is the opening of the 8th Taipei Film Festival. The 2-week film carnival will show 166 films and 50 seminars and events will be held.
As the Festival brings Toronto and Montreal into the City Vision this year, its prelusion tomorrow afternoon is a strong Canadian brew: Canadian guitar/ flute duo Similia, jazz performance and a jamboree at Zhongshan Hall piazza. There is also a hockey demo opens for children’s participation. In the evening Canadian film C.R.A.Z.Y. will mark the opening of this 15-day Festival.
International New Talent Competition is in its second year. This year five world-class directors are in the jury: Hou Hsiao-hsien, Jean-Marc Vallée, director of the opening film C.R.A.Z.Y., Laurent Cantet (Heading South) from France, Zhang Yuan (Little Red Flowers) from mainland and Hong Kong’s Pang Ho-cheung (Isabella). While the competing directors are flying in to Taipei to await the announcement of the award winners on 1 July, they will also attend screenings of their works.
Taipei Grand Award would be judged by a 7-member jury from both coasts of the strait, including Hong Kong director Ann Hui. Taipei Image Award continues to encourage Taipei citizens to capture the city image. Presentation ceremony of the two awards would be held before the screening of closing film Where the Truth Lies.

Tickets of the Festival are sold at Zhongshan Hall, The Metropolitan Hall, in 89 Digital Cinema and Shin Kong Cineplex. Ticket prices are NTD120 for daytime screening Monday through Friday and NTD180 for evening and weekend screenings. For details please call 02-3322-1623.
